Some among us also follow Shaivism or Vaishnavism. It is not unusual to find Christians amongst us thanks to the conversions that occurred in the 18th century. We are referred to as Udayar or Samanar based on the place where we reside. Men in our community are addressed as Parkavan and women, Parkavi.
